How to stop a fungal nail infection coming back
Reinfection is common because the environment that caused the first infection usually has not changed.
Footwear
Rotate shoes so each pair dries fully. Use an antifungal shoe spray weekly on trainers and work boots.
Socks
Change daily, wash at 60°C where the fabric allows, and choose wool or synthetic wicking fabrics over cotton for sport.
Feet
Dry thoroughly between the toes. Treat athlete's foot at the first sign of itching or flaking.
Communal spaces
Wear flip-flops in gym showers, pools and hotel bathrooms.
Nail care
Keep nails short and filed flat. Never share clippers, and ask salons to sterilise or bring your own tools.
